Googleness

You know, I normally hate corporations. I think Disney is taking over the world, as is NBC, Martha Stewart was trying to and doing pretty well until she went to jail, but she's working her way up the world domination ladder as we speak.

One company I'd have to say I wouldn't mind taking over stuff is Google. That is as long as they keep doing what they're doing. They just added GoogleTalk which makes me very happy as I'm dying to get away from AOL (also taking over the world, but they're in there with Disney and ABC). AOL sucks, I hate the program, it takes over your computer, it's supposed to be easy for people, but it takes you away from learning how to actually use the internet, which I guess isn't a problem if you never use computers that don't have AOL. But come on, it's like putting a mask over the internet.

Anyway, I will be downloading GoogleTalk at home (not at work obviously) but please join me in celebration that we have another service to use and maybe we can drop AOL all together. Also, GoogleTalk lets you actually talk through your computer for free, check it out.

Detox

Hello, my name is Jill and I'm a sugar addict. Ok, so I can't remember the last time I had a day with no candy or ice cream or cake. This is just wrong. There's a basket of candy at work, which I take tootsie rolls from. At home I have M&Ms to snack on after dinner, but then I eat way too many. This morning there was cake in the kitchen at work, and more than one person raved about how good it was, so of course I had some.

There's only one way out of this. I have to sugar detox. No candy, cake, ice cream, for at the very least a few days. I have to get it out of my system. But I do not include fig newtons in that category, and that's b/c I only eat two of those a day (when I even eat them).

Wish me luck.

I try to only write on here when I have something interesting to say, so you can see that I obviously haven't had much going on. Asthma sucks, which has kept me from exercising, so I feel like a giant loaf.

Went to the Allman Brothers show on Saturday, that was a blast, we tailgated all afternoon and then went in for the show. Keith and Julie were down from ME. Why do so many of my friends live so far away? It really blows.

Musical Disappointment

Ok, what's happened to music lately? I feel like every time I turn on the radio it's the same song on. Everything sounds the same. Or the re-makes of old songs. Yes, it's great to pay tribute to old songs and artists, but maybe their version is better than yours. Maybe we should leave good enough alone.

And don't even get me started on Weezer. How unbelievably disappointing is Weezer? I used to love that band. I still love their old stuff, but come on, the song "We Are All On Drugs" doesn't that song sound just like their old music, with the same chords, just different words? It's not original. And that song "Beverly Hills," why would Weezer sing about Beverly Hills? I can't even continue this thought.

Let me also just mention, in complete randomness, I hate the police (No, not the band). This morning I went through the regular construction by my house. A policeman waved me to stop, even though there seemed to be no reason to do so. Then, after five minutes he waved me on. But I sat there, and then another cop started waving at me to go. Why did I not go? Because there was a flippin' crane holding up some sort of huge metal thing in the middle of the road, that would've crashed into my windshield. So when I waved at them they looked back, saw the thing in the air and then held up their hand for me to stop. Gee thanks, obviously with your help I would be dead right now. How about paying attention when you direct traffic??

Philips/Magnavox, how could you do this to me?

My TV broke. I come back from being away for the weekend, and we find that the TV won't work. Right when we want to watch the sox game. We checked the satellite, it wasn't that, and then we switched the TVs. Now we have the little 19" in the living room, which sucks b/c it's a weird generic TV (the TV is fine) but it's not compatible with any universal remotes, so we now have another remote. Being a grown up sucks, b/c all these stupid money issues just pop up.

Funny news: Daylight Savings Extension

It irks me that they're going to screw with my time. WTF. And why do we need this? Apparently it's going to help with energy. All it means to me is that I'll have to spring ahead right before my birthday.

Alexis and I should not be allowed to drive in a car together to any destination where neither of us have been. Even some places we've been to should be questioned.

Yesterday we attended a funeral. We got lost. What happened was that we drove past it and didn't see it, drove all the way into Wellesley even though we were supposed to be in Brookline. We turned around a few times. During this time we thought we were late b/c we thought everything started at 9, but it started at 10. So we were actually half an hour early. When we did finally get there we sat in the church for about 20 minutes feeling like we were in an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasum. Possibly sitting in the wrong church we contemplated how we might have to get up and try to escape when we discover that we are at the wrong services. We didn't recognize anyone, what were we to do. Well there was no way we were going to get up and leave in the middle of someone's mass, so we realized we'd have to sit there and miss the services we wanted to attend. Luckily everything worked out, but it was touch and go for a while.

My latest rant, and let me preface this by saying that if you are against abortion you can just stop reading right now. I have my opinions, you have yours, leave it at that.

The govenors of both MA and NY have decided that they are against the morning after pill. Now, obviously I'm not shocked that this happened, but I am appalled. They don't want to allow these pills to be sold over the counter. Now, I like to assume that this would only be used as a precaution, such as if the condom broke, and I do realize what it would be like to make this available to teenagers, but I also know that teenagers are going to have sex, and the ones who are responsible enough will use condoms, or go to Planned Parenthood to get on the pill. But for those who don't they should make this pill available. It's not killing an unborn child, it's preventing an egg from getting fertilized, get over it. There isn't even a fetus yet!

Rant over.
